Tensions around the Kansas City Chiefs reached boiling point this weekend — and it wasn’t just because of another brutal loss.
As Kansas City slumped to a 26–9 defeat against the Tennessee Titans, one local reporter found himself at the center of a social-media firestorm after appearing to take a swipe at Travis Kelce — and, by extension, provoking the wrath of Taylor Swift’s fiercely loyal fanbase.
Radio host and Chiefs reporter Pete Mundo, who fronts Mundo in the Morning on KCMO, questioned whether Kelce would face the media following yet another disappointing defeat.
Posting on X, Mundo wrote:
“WILL TRAVIS KELCE TALK TO THE MEDIA AFTER THIS LOSS? -200 odds he passes, per usual, after a loss. Hope I’m wrong.”
Within minutes, Swifties pounced.
Fans rushed to Kelce’s defence, pointing out that the tight end was barely involved in the game and questioning why he was being singled out while others — including coaches and struggling quarterbacks — avoided similar scrutiny.
“He hardly had the ball. Why are you obsessed with him?” one user fired back.
“Talk to the coaches. Talk to the scheme. Leave Travis alone,” another snapped.
The backlash grew so intense that Mundo later claimed “the nasty Swifties found a post of mine again,” as replies flooded in accusing him of chasing soundbites rather than accountability.
The timing couldn’t have been worse.
Kelce has frequently skipped post-game media duties during the Chiefs’ nightmare season — one already defined by injuries, chaos, and heartbreak. The team is out of playoff contention, Patrick Mahomes is sidelined with a season-ending ACL tear, and Kansas City has been forced to rely on third-string quarterback Chris Oladokun after Gardner Minshew went down.
Kelce’s silence has also drawn criticism beyond Kansas City.
Veteran broadcaster Chris Russo recently blasted the 36-year-old on national television, accusing him of dodging professional responsibility by saving his thoughts for his podcast instead of addressing reporters after devastating losses.
Russo argued that Kelce owed at least a few words to the beat reporters who have followed the team daily — especially after Mahomes’ injury and with Kelce’s own NFL future now under intense speculation.
With retirement rumors swirling, the Chiefs collapsing, and Swifties ready to defend their star at all costs, one thing is clear:
Every word — and every silence — from Travis Kelce now carries far more weight than ever before.
